PMMMNMTT Banasthali FDP Prof OP Yadav North Dakota State University USA Talks on Robust Design
Faculty Development Centre at Banasthali organized a one week Faculty Development Program under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) on the theme “Interdisciplinary Dimensions of Chemical Engineering” during 21 – 27 July 2018. Chemical Engineering Department Banasthali facilitated the program with Prof BR Natarajan as Coordinator, Prof Satish Shukla as Convenor and Mr Deepak Kumar as Co Convenor.PMMMNMTT is a path breaking scheme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development MHRD, Government of India. Only top ranking institutions in India today have been identified under PMMMNMTT as Centre of Excellence in Curriculum and Pedagogy to facilitate the professional and personal development of teachers which is vital for achieving the goals of quality education. It is a matter of great pride that Banasthali which is world’s largest fully residential women’s University with Quacquarelli Symonds QS Four Star Ranking and Diamond Status is one such centre for Faculty Development.
Chemical Engineering is undoubtedly a highly interdisciplinary field of study concerned with materials and processes at the heart of a broad range of technologies. The theme attracted faculty members from diverse disciplines and 30 participants registered for the program which was inaugurated by Shri Amit Kumar Scientific Officer F Nuclear Power Corporation of India NPCIL Rawatbhata Rajasthan on 21 Jul 2018 with a talk on Challenges in Nuclear Power Technology.
It is well known that a system (product or process) is ROBUST if it performs properly to Customer Satisfaction in a wide range of conditions. Robust product design is a concept from the teachings of Dr. Genichi Taguchi, a Japanese quality guru and is defined as reducing variation in a product without eliminating the causes of the variation, i.e. making the product or process insensitive to variation.
On 23 July 2018, Prof Om Prakash Yadav who holds PhD Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University and presently Interim Chair Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at North Dakota State University – NDSU USA gave a talk on Robust Design. Prof Yadav’s Research interests include Quality and Reliability Engineering; Robust Product / Process Design, Concurrent Engineering; TQM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Methodologies; Production & Operations Management; Optimization Techniques; Supply-Chain Management; Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks; Quantitative Analysis of Operations Management.
Before joining NDSU, he was a senior reliability engineer at Ford Motor Company and faculty at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (India) which is his Alma mater too. He has served as Associate Editor, Guest Editor, and Editorial Board Member of several international journals. He is actively involved in organizing several international level conferences and currently serving as Management Committee member of Reliability & Maintainability Symposium. Dr. Yadav has published over 100 journal and conference paper articles and delivered several invited keynote talks around the world in many international conferences and symposiums. He has conducted several training programs and workshop for professionals in both India and USA. He is a member of American Society of Quality, Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and Society of Reliability Engineers.
Participant Shri Ashok Yadav who is also MNIT Jaipur alumnus welcomed Prof OP Yadav with a colorful bouquet and Prof Natarajan honored him with a Banasthali unique tradition Khadi Garland. Prof Satish Shukla presented a glittering memento to Prof OP Yadav on behalf of the host institution.
Prof Yadav went around the campus and was highly impressed with the infrastructure and had words of high praise for the automation department with state of the art facilities under the leadership of Prof Shaily Sharma. He also visited the art gallery Kala Mandir as well as library and spent time glancing through the original copy of the constitution of India preserved there. Prof Yadav addressed the students of chemical engineering and urged them to be dreamers performers and achievers in coming times.
Prof OP Yadav also interacted with Vice Chancellor Prof Aditya Shastri and offered to collaborate with Banasthali for furthering the cause of women education and expressed his desire to take a girl engineer from Banasthali with Electronics background to work on a research project at USA. His visit is truly unforgettable for Banasthali.
