SGS Conducts Two Seminars on Personnel Certification in the Field of Non-Destructive Testing in Southeast Asia

SGS Holds Two Seminars on Personnel Certification in the Field of Non-Destructive Testing in Southeast Asia
On March 16, 2010 in the City of Manila, Philippines and on March 18, 2010 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, SGS conducted two seminars on personnel certification in the field of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). Participants had the chance to learn about the differences of various certification schemes used throughout the world and to discuss issues regarding this topic.
Competence of those carrying out NDT is of outmost importance. Only qualified personnel can perform a satisfactory inspection, interpret the test results and make critical judgments. Although certification sounds like a relatively simple subject, it is quite complex and confusing. Many certificates are misinterpreted which leads to the fact that people inspecting welds and other products aren’t suitably qualified.
SGS conducted two seminars on personnel certification in the field of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in order to give seminar attendees the chance to take an in-depth look into the world of certification of personnel working in the NDT business. Participants took active part in the discussions about the advantages and disadvantages of in-house certification and centrally managed certification schemes such as the well known PCN-certification scheme. Furthermore, seminar attendees learned about the specific information which should be included on a certificate and what it means to be qualified. Finally, individual questions were clarified. Attendees can, from now on, be more critical about the certificates they review and better specify the required personnel.
The seminar was given by Jason Scott who gained extensive experience in NDT and NDT Training as Director of the SGS Training and Certification School in China.
