SGS Product Certification Body and SGS Testing Laboratories Listed in the Register of the Eurasian Economic Community Customs Union

SGS Product Certification Body and four SGS testing laboratories located in Russia have been added to the Single Register of Certification Bodies and Testing Laboratories of the Customs Union within the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC). Thus, it permits the Certification of Conformity and Declaration of Conformity to be recognized within the three member countries of the Customs Union.

The Product Certification Body of SGS Vostok Limited (the russian subsidiary of the SGS Group) and four SGS testing laboratories, located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara and Nakhodka are included since early July 2010 in the Single Register of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) Customs Union.

The three Customs Union members (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) aimed to build a unified customs territory and thus established the Single Register. On December 11, 2009, an agreement was based on the circulation of products liable to mandatory conformity assurance in the territory within the Customs Union. It is mentionned that all products included in the Single Product List have to be tested and certified in one of the member countries, have got the right to freely circulate within the whole territory of the Customs Union. However the testing and certification of the products have to be carried out by a laboratory and certification body included in the Single Register.

This registration within the Eurasian Economic Community represents a nice opportunity for SGS Industrial Services (www.sgs.com/industrial). Manufacturers can from now on easily supply their products to other market than the one of Russia. Besides, it won´t be hard to get the certificate of conformity or the declaration of conformity in single format since those documents are recognized in the member states of the Customs Union. However Vladimir Ovcharov also thinks that the national legislation of the country of destination should still make product marking.
