How Eve Evolved
Eve, early rendition
Simon’s early version of Eve depicts a rather confused woman holding an apple in her hand, scratching her head, and deciding whether on not to take that first bite. The snake is there next to the innocent Eve, looking on from the sidelines. The colors in the limited edition print are black, red and beige. The shape of the image is circular, reflecting the round, red apple and the roundness of Eve’s form – and even the curly take of the curving snake.
Simon’s latest version of Eve is a 3-D image on a recycled plastic form that was found in the dumpster near Costco. There is no head to Eve, only her torso. The snake is entwined around Eve’s plastic body, forming an integral part by being the only clothing on the naked, flesh-colored Eve. The snake image is in the form of a mosaic, reflecting the myriad of components that make up the individual.
We leave it to the viewer to decide what comment Simon is making! These images can be seen on display at the Simply Simon exhibition, and will be coming online in a Virtual Gallery at the beginning of December.
