Mick Shaddock is CESA chair

Mick Shaddock is the new Chair of the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA). Of his vision for the Association he says: “CESA has an increasingly important role in influencing legislation, particularly in reference to sustainability and energy usage. It’s vital that we continue to build on this influence, in order to protect the interests of not only our members but the foodservice industry as a whole.”

He points to CESA’s direct input into key areas of environmental legislation, such as the WEEE directive, Gas Safety and the Carbon Trust’s Energy Technology List (ETL). “Together with EFCEM (the European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers), we are currently helping to shape the EuP Directive (Energy Using Products) coming out of Brussels,” he adds. “As an Association we are keen to reflect our members’ commitment to sustainability. However, it is essential that legislation is practical and achievable. The best way to do this is to be involved in the process of developing the standards on which it will be based. By ensuring legislators get it right, we can help the whole industry.

“We also need to keep supporting the associated areas that will encourage energy-led R&D initiatives by manufacturers. For example, by getting more equipment categories onto the ETL and through encouraging the development of effective green procurement processes.”

Mick Shaddock is the managing director of Victor Manufacturing. He brings enormous experience to his role as chair of CESA, having been in the catering equipment industry since the early 1980s. He’s worked with brands including Moorwood Vulcan, Viscount and Enodis.

In taking up his post Mick praised the work of his predecessor, Malcolm Harling of AFE Group. “All of us on the CESA Council recognise his commitment and effort. I will strive to build on the excellent foundation put in place not only by Malcolm, but by a succession of very good chairs before him.”

Nick Oryino, managing director of the Carford Group, is the new vice chair of CESA. He will take over as chair at the end of Mick’s tenure, in November 2012.
