Micromachining Company Potomac Brings Laser Institute Chapter to DC Area
Potomac Photonics is a founding member of the Washington, DC and Baltimore chapter of the Laser Institute of AmericaLanham, Maryland, April 11, 2011 -- Leading micromachining services provider, Potomac Photonics, announces it is a founding member of the Laser Institute of America’s (LIA) new DC and Baltimore chapter. The LIA is the professional society for laser applications and safety serving the industrial, medical, research, and government communities for over 40 years. LIA also serves as the secretariat and publisher of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z136 series of laser safety standards. These standards constitute the foundation of laser safety programs nationwide.
Planning for the inaugural meeting is underway and will provide networking and information sharing for users, manufacturers, safety officers, and researchers. Presentations are being sought for this and other meetings that will rotate between the DC and Baltimore areas. At the first meeting, Potomac’s founder, Dr C. Paul Christensen, will talk about micromachining for wireless sensor applications. Wireless sensor nodes can detect events such as earthquakes and can be used in hazardous environments or in healthcare with applications for Body Area Network.
With special access to government laboratories and agencies influencing the future course of laser technology, this new LIA chapter will foster many favorable connections.
