Potomac Photonics Micro-machining Pioneer Speaks at SENSORS Expo
Paul Christensen, leader in the field of laser micromachining, will speak at SENSORS Expo in Chicago about new technology in wireless sensors being developed at Potomac Photonics.Lanham, MD, April 25, 2011 -- Laser micromachining pioneer and founder of Potomac Photonics, Dr Paul Christensen, will speak at SENSORS Expo in Chicago on June 7th, 2011. A leader in this field, Dr Christensen will outline his new approach to fabricating miniaturized wireless sensors.
Titled ‘Providing the Infrastructure for Connecting to the World: One Sensor at a Time’, the talk will describe new technology currently being developed at Potomac Photonics with funding from the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. He’ll also outline applications in wireless sensor markets, such as medical devices, industrial plant maintenance, aeronautics, and solar energy in which Potomac’s new technology could have important impact.
Based on his early work in laser micromachining, Dr. Christensen’s new approach allows for high component packing density and significant size reduction of wireless sensor nodes through the use of fine-feature nanoparticle silver conductors and embedding of surface mount packaged components. Nearly arbitrary 3-D forms can be created. Of particular interest is the technique’s ability to scale from small batch to high volume production at reduced cost.
Dr. Christensen founded Potomac Photonics nearly 30 years ago to commercialize his new miniaturized excimer laser invention. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of CA, Berkeley and a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from MIT.
Dr Christensen’s talk at the SENSORS Expo is scheduled for June 7, 2011 at 2:40 p.m. The technical conference and exposition will be held at the Donald Stevens Exposition Center in Rosemont, IL. For more information visit http://www.sensorsmag.com/sensors-expo/conference-...
