Cider Is Wine Launches with London Wine Fair Stand
8 confirmed producers from 6 different countries set to exhibit, placing Cider in its home territory – wine.Cider Is Wine, the not-for-profit trade alliance, is hosting these 8 different producers from around the world to showcase cider’s credentials at the 39th London Wine Fair when those ciders are produced in the same manner as wine.
In a first show of its kind, the participating producers all craft their ciders from 100% apple or pear juice to create natural products which have more in common with wines than they do to conventional, mass-market cider or beer production.
A bottle of wine when labelled ‘wine’ has to be produced totally from freshly- pressed grapes, with any other wine type being defined as ‘British’ or ‘fruit’. Yet ciders can be produced from just 35% juice, all of which can be from concentrate, and still be labelled as cider. Consumers have no clear choice in the market, nor definition, to enable them to choose between the different standards and styles available.
Alistair Morrell, Cider Is Wine’s CEO, said:
‘The direction of the alcohol market is clear – higher value, less volume, lower alcohol, craft-made products with a clear indication of its standard are what consumers in the UK and most mature alcohol markets want. Cider Is Wine has been created to more clearly make a market definition for consumers to choose a preferred cider style. 100% juice cider and perry producers – not made from concentrate – are in the vanguard of this new international consumer category and exhibiting at the London Wine Fair, the UK’s premier show for the wine trade.’
The different countries represented are New Zealand (Abel Ciders), Australia (Willie Smiths), USA (Eden Speciality Ciders), France (Kystin, Ecusson, Loic Rasin), Sweden (Brännland) and UK (Once Upon A Tree, Gospel Green, Tutts Clump, Malvern Gold).
Eight cider producers from 5 different countries will travel especially to support their brands and Cider Is Wine at the London Wine Fair.
Eleanor Leger from Eden Speciality Ciders, Vermont, USA, Mark McGill from Abel Ciders, Nelson, New Zealand, Clothilde from Kystin, Vannes, France, Brock Berguis from Gospel Green, Hamshire, UK, Andreas Sundgren, Brännland, Sweden, Tim Wale, Tutts Clump, Berkshire, UK, Simon Day, Once Upon A Tree, Hertfordshire, UK and a representative from Malvern Gold, UK will be available on the stand to offer precise and expert advice about their ciders.
A masterclass during the London Wine Fair on Tuesday 21st May at 4.30pm, will highlight the commercial opportunity represented by developing this new consumer category, showing the broad range of different styles to a selected buyer audience, with an example from each producer.
Ciders and perries can demonstrate all of the traits of wine, including varietal, vintage and terroir differences, as well as the many judgements and production techniques used by different producers, whilst expressing their art.
Cider Is Wine will be exhibiting on stand EZ104.
