Horizons Crossing premiere: A sold out event
Horizons Crossing Premiere: A Sold Out EventParticipate Film Academy hosted 400 guests at the world premiere of feature film Horizons Crossing, 10 August 2011 at Hoyts EQ. The sold out red carpet event attracted diverse audience, keen to view another student produced movie from a film school setting a new standard in film education.
Since 2006, Participate Film Academy remains the only school in the world where students produce a full-length feature film as part of a 13 month Diploma of Screen and Media course.
Horizons Crossing, the Academy’s fifth movie, is a love story and psychological thriller that blurs the line between imagination and reality. After surviving an almost fatal fall, Abby is haunted by visions of two lovers being threatened. Believing she can save them, Abby becomes drawn into the mysterious world that exists between life and death.
The Australian cast, including lead actresses and newcomers, Aarabella Macpherson and Bonnie Killett, graced the red carpet for their feature film debut, along with films’ student director Dagan Herceg, and the student film crew.
“It was a long journey to reach this red carpet - endless months of hard work and persistence, and it’s all paid off, just being here tonight,” says Herceg.
What is remarkable about their achievement is that unlike other movies made by first time directors, who are surrounded by experienced crews on decent budgets, this film was made entirely by students after only 6 months unique, intensive training. The fact that they even managed to complete a film from script, through screenplay, all areas of production and post-production, on a tiny $1600 budget raised by the students is extraordinary. What did the audience think?
Congratulations to all involved in the making of this film. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors were so natural and well cast. It certainly held your interest to the end. Great script and brilliant work all round” said Pat and “Cannot believe it is produced by newcomers!” said an anonymous reviewer on the website.
“I thought the film was amazing. The camerawork and sound work was truly remarkable. The fact that these people could make such a movie with only six month training is a credit to the school. Andrew Bissex
Artur Kade, Founder and mentor said “ I am understandably proud of my students, particularly Director, Producer, Editor Dagan Herceg, who continued working solo on the film for 18 months after the course finished, to make it the best movie by Participate to date.”
Thanks to the support of Hoyts, there is a limited seven-day screening of Horizons Crossing at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter from the 11-18 August. Followed by screenings at Metro Cinemas, Boronia Melbourne, from 1 September; and Wallis Cinemas, Adelaide shortly after.
Participate Film Academy and the crew would like to thank the cast, sponsors and everyone involved in the production of the film and premiere. Without the support given, the journey to reach this point would have been even longer and harder.
