STEM IS FEM Module Unites Girls Interested in Robotics and Engineering

The Stem is Fem Robotics and Engineering module was held online for the first time on the 11th and 12th of April. The event united Ukrainian schoolgirls that have to stay at home in self-quarantine due to the possible infection with coronavirus. Participants virtually attended lectures and workshops in robotics via Zoom conference and listened to motivational speeches by representatives of Ukroboronprom Concern, NATO Representation to Ukraine, United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.

The Stem is Fem charity project was started by Gamingtec to motivate Ukrainian girls to study technical sciences. Thirty girls from different Ukrainian cities, aged between f 14 to 16 years old, took part in the module. The fourth module was focused on robotics and the importance of STEM education. The organizers offered the girls to solve a practical problem - create a concept of a robot that can help humanity in the fight against the pandemic.

Sapar Karyagdyyev, CEO of Gamingtec, made a statement before the module started: "Robotics is developing rapidly, and its innovative achievements are useful for healthcare, education, agriculture, military and transport industries. The Stem is Fem online module is focused on the popularization of robotics and engineering among school girls: during the module, they will find out how the things work in Ukraine, what challenges scientists and engineers that currently work in the industry want to achieve. We have prepared useful prizes for winners of the module. They will receive a LEGO kit, online educational courses, and a trip to the conference abroad that will be organized when the pandemic is finished."

Oksana Kuiantseva, PR Manager at Gamingtec, gave a motivational speech to girls: "STEM specialists are in a high demand today. Do not be afraid of prejudice that there is no place for girls in engineering, IT, robotics or other related fields. Believe in your talents, discover new opportunities, get various knowledge and experiences. When you find something that you are interested in, that occupies your mind, this may become your future profession and passion. And if it is STEM, then we will know that our efforts made a difference."

Two days of the module passed filled with new information for girls, motivational vibes, and exciting discussions that girls had with Stem is Fem speakers, women that succeed in tech and other industries. Among the best projects, created by participants in one day, should be mentioned a concept of a robot that can help disinfecting groceries and a robot that acts as a comprehensive medical assistant. Three winners of the module are Veronika Podlesnova from Dnipro, Alyona Kvitka from Serevodonetsk, and Maria Topolia from Ukrainka town in Kyiv Oblast. The grand prize was taken by Maria Scherbina from Zaporizhzhia.
