The person needing the contacts just needs to get the right one. Gas-permeable contacts (GP lenses), is rigid and keeps their shape when placed on the eye. The GP lens then forces the cornea into a shape that improves vision.

"These are not the same as hard contacts or soft contacts. Gas-permeable means they allow oxygen to flow through. This is more comfortable on the eye than traditional hard contacts," Dr. Super said. "At the same time, they do force your eye to conform to the shape."

Toric lenses, soft contacts, are made from silicone hydrogel. They are different from the other contacts in that they can different powers across the lens. Think bifocal in a contact lens.

Instead of reshaping the whole cornea, the torrid lets the lens rotate to the proper place on the eye to correct the astigmatism.

"Getting fit for Toric lenses is different than the others because you made need to try more than one brand to get the right fitting. If you want toric lenses you should see an optometrist who has years of experience prescribing and working with these kind of contacts," Dr. Super said.

This kind is a hybrid. It is party hard and partly soft. The hard part conforms the cornea and the soft parts make them more comfortable. Dr Super said many patients prefer these. At the same time, they require even more expertise to properly fit them.
