Regional Waterproofing Contributes CleanSpace Material to GreenHome

Raleigh, N.C. – Regional Waterproofing (regionalwaterproofing.com), a basement and crawl space waterproofing company based out of Zebulon, and Cherokee Investment Partners (www.MainstreamGreenHome.com) have joined forces to integrate a “green” crawl space system for Cherokee’s National Homebuilder Mainstream GreenHome. The crawl space system manufactured by Basement Systems, called CleanSpace, will be instrumental in reducing heating and cooling costs, and improving overall air quality. The GreenHome project was created to illustrate to builders and homeowners that practicality and comfort remains intact when building green.

The CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System (www.basementsystems.com/crawlspace) has revolutionized the crawl space industry. In order to eliminate moisture and conserve on energy, crawl space vents and exterior air leaks are sealed off to prevent unconditioned air from entering the space. “The idea of sealing a crawl space in this way is a perfect example of how green building can become mainstream,” said Von Bullock, Jr. of Regional Waterproofing. “We hope this project shows homeowners that the attributes of keeping moisture or extreme hot or cold air out of the home makes good sense, and when combined as part of an overall ‘green’ design – homeowners can enjoy a healthier, more comfortable home.”

Along with the 20-mil thick CleanSpace polyethylene liner, a sump pump is included to address groundwater seepage and take stagnant water away from the foundation. The final inclusion to the encapsulation system is a SaniDry crawl space dehumidification system which eliminates water vapor and filters the air.

“Air and moisture that comes through the crawl space into a home can place a great load on the heating and cooling systems in a home,” comments Jonathan Philips, Senior Director of Cherokee. “What we found in the Basement Systems’ product is a comprehensive way to significantly improve the home’s energy efficiency and overall air quality all at the same time. We see this as a blueprint for what homebuilders can do across the country.”

Cherokee Investment Partners has introduced GreenHome as a thought provoking project – the first of its kind to be built in a conventional suburban neighborhood, in Raleigh, N.C.
