Redefining Smart Cities To help bridge the digital difference
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of a massive drive to develop smart or intelligent cities. In line with SAGIA's vision - ‘To enact reforms and targeted investments to position Saudi Arabia among the world’s Top-10 most competitive economies', six economic cities are under development within the Kingdom. These cities have been initially funded by public private partnerships (PPP's) and international investors. All efforts are focused on integrating technology with economic trends to build a truly digital community.A robust structure that enables it's citizens and businesses access or information to Government services, telecommunication, transportation, public safety, education, healthcare and energy serve as the back bone to any thriving economy. To make cities a better place to live and grow, municipal authorities are exploring ways to bring its consumer closer to them by introducing user friendly services at the ease of convenience. Smart technologies such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Intelligent Transport Systems and Smart Grids, to name a few, are clearly paving the path to a digital revolution.
Riding the momentum of Saudi Arabia's committed approach to delivering smart cities , Fleming Gulf announces The Digital Grids And Smart Cities Summit which will take place in Riyadh between the 10th March & 12th March, 2013. The summit will see over 100 delegates gather to discuss strategies to create a smart and sustainable future. The opening keynote address will be made by Eng. Nasser Al-Qahtani, Vice Governor – Regulatory Affairs, ECRA (Electricity & Co-generation Regulatory Authority) and Dr. Abdulgader Othman Amir, Vice Mayor - Strategic Planning and Chief Planner, Jeddah Municipality on Day 1 and Day 2 respectively. Presentations from local and international experts will include interconnecting digital grids and smart cities, identifying smart grid applications and requirements ,developing M2M (Machine to Machine) communication systems and more. The agenda will also cover aspects of smart web, smart communications and smart mobility that will facilitate a futuristic yet self sustainable system.
