Summit in Abu Dhabi to address challenges in Enhanced Oil Recovery

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) will help in recovering 67 billion barrels worth of oil. 2nd Annual Enhanced Oil Recovery & Heavy Oil Conference, to be held in Abu Dhabi in March will discuss the latest developments in the field of EOR and heavy oil.

US Department of Energy estimates that Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) will help in recovering 67 billion barrels worth of oil. This was mentioned in an article featured on Oil and Gas Journal's website. The article further states that use of EOR would benefit the environment as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere will in turn be utilized for oil production.

Companies all over the world are implementing EOR programs to capitalize on the latest developments in the field of EOR and heavy oil. 2nd Annual Enhanced Oil Recovery and Heavy Oil Conference to be held in Abu Dhabi will bring together oil and gas professionals from across the globe to discuss and devise new solutions to further efficient oil production. The conference will be held in Hotel Le Royale Meridien on 27 - 28 March 2013.

Prof. M. R. Riazi - Professor, Chemical Engineering; Editor in Chief, International Journal of Oil, Gas & coal Technology (IJOGCT) UK who was a part of the first edition has joined the speaker panel. He will be delivering his presentation on 'Characterization and properties of heavy oils' on day one.
When asked about the latest developments in heavy oils, Prof. Riazi said, "There are two major issues involving production and processing of heavy oils; high cost of production and processing and environmental issues related to heavy oil processing and increase in the rate of carbon emission. Capital cost for EOR processes is the major challenge facing heavy oil production. With oil price at $ 100 per barrel and development of new technologies for EOR processes production of heavy oil in the region would be economical and attractive. Countries in the region are in the top list of countries in the world on carbon emission per capita as well as energy and electricity consumption. Produced CO2 from power plants could be captured and used for gas injection projects in EOR processes for production of heavy oil in the region." Dr. M. R. Riazi is currently a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Kuwait University.

When asked about his participation in the conference's second edition he said, "Following last year's successful conference on EOR/Heavy Oil, the 2nd conference is an interesting event in which some of business leaders and managers as well as technical experts in the region and beyond will gather to discuss various issues and to present latest technologies related to EOR and heavy oil production. I am looking forward to attend this event to share some of the issues and ideas related to economical application of EOR processes in the region".
