Press release from: Cuculus GmbH

ILMENAU (Germany), 24.07.2013 - CUCULUS GMBH MEETS THE QUALITY MANAGEMENT STANDARD DIN EN ISO 9001:2008. THE CERTIFICATION WAS ISSUED BY THE TÜV THURINGIA. THIS CONFIRMES THE QUALITY ORIENTED AND CUSTOMER FOCUSED WORK OF CUCULUS IN THE AREAS DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION AND SUPPORT OF IT-SOLUTIONS FOR ELECTRICITY, GAS AND WATER AS WELL AS RENEWABLE ENERGIES.

CUCULUS is a globally operating company in the areas of Smart Metering, Smart Home and Smart Grid. From three different locations in Germany – Ilmenau, Leipzig and Cologne - and sales and distribution offices throughout Europe CUCULUS provides Advanced Meter Management (AMM) and Meter Data Management (MDM) systems. Based on these systems CUCULUS develops sophisticated applications to integrate renewable energies in public grids.

The transition in energy policy and ambitious goals for a more efficient usage of natural resources require to constantly monitor consumption patterns and to automate supply grids as far as possible.
CUCULUS is now able to provide the necessary software in a DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 certified form.

CUCULUS has decided to implement a quality management system which is focused on customer requirements and delivered services and products.
The standards and guidelines in ISO 9001:2008 provide a framework for the company to deliver solutions that always fulfill the expectations of its customers. The certification does not only ensure that current market requirements are met, but provides also a solid base for the future quality management of the steadily growing CUCULUS GmbH.
“This is an important step for CUCULUS”, says René Böringer, CUCULUS CCO. “Our solutions are business critical for many of our clients. With the growing number of managed smart meters and the increased deployment of important applications such as automatic optimization of consumption, dynamic pricing, time-of-use tariffs as well as fast error detection in our supply networks, the relevance of our ZONOS software increases constantly. CUCULUS aims to deliver software of highest possible quality and to put, in close cooperation with our customers, the required principles into practice throughout the process chain. This is now documented with a successful certification.”

The certificate is valid for three years and is regularly reviewed through external audits. Therefore it is ensured that the quality management processes and policies are applied, controlled and continuously improved.

Many smart water and district heating meters are not as smart as electricity meters. These meters lack the ability for flexible scheduling of meter reads. Handling of events and alarms is very limited and advanced security standards are not supported. In most cases, these meters communicate with a gateway through cable using the M-Bus protocol or wirelessly through the wM-Bus protocol. Cuculus and Elvaco have designed and implemented a concept which
