Overview

The Kurchatov Institute brings together 15 research institutes and scientific and technological structures, which form an important part of the Russian nuclear physics complex. Strategically important government facilities like these need reliable services and solutions for data storage, protection and management. Virtualization is a fundamental component of the Institute’s strategy to deliver a seamless experience to its workforce. The Institute must provide high-speed data recovery, minimizing the risk of data loss with an integrated IT infrastructure. The infrastructure used previously did not fully support their needs; in particular, web access was unsatisfactory because it only supported Internet Explorer. Also, they did not have working RDP connections for Android and iOS.

The Challenge

Institute staff required access to corporate resources from mobile devices based on Android and iOS. Required applications included: document management system EOS, 1C and Consultant+.

To tackle this challenge, the Institute considered products from different manufacturers. 2X RAS was chosen because the product was the best in terms of price and performance. The possibility to guarantee access to corporate applications from Chrome browser and Android and iOS devices was another important advantage. The Institute was also attracted by the presence of a free load balancing component.

The Solution
