International Workshop on Mergers and Acquisitions
The Continuing Education Center at the Vienna University of Technology & the Department of Economics at the University of Vienna present an International Workshop on Mergers & Acquisitions on October 25, 2007 – 5 p.m. at the TU Vienna. We are in the midst of a Mergers and Acquisitions boom of nearly $4 trillion of deals a year. There are many reasons why firms want to merge, like globalization and the need of synergies, market power, or privatizations on a large scale. The recent boom has inevitably led to comparisons with the 1990s merger boom. But there are several big differences. The most obvious is that the 1990s were fuelled by stock, whereas today's frenzy runs on credit. With interest rates low, it has become easier for companies to finance themselves with debt than with equity. Cash is the main coinage.
How were privatizations done in Austria? What were the effects on stock markets and M&A activity? Will recent developments, i.e. the credit market crisis starting in the US subprime mortgage market, put an end to the merger boom? How will the market for private equity react?
These and many more questions will be tackled at this Workshop. It is addressed to Managers, Lawyers, Economists, Consultants as well as to advanced students and university teachers. We were able to gain internationally distinguished experts within the field of M&A.
