Central knowledge database: Information center and value creation pool for production data

Today, a wide range of information is available for making the right decisions in production: From the production level (store floor) itself, the machine controls with NC programs, the tool management, the tool measuring and storage systems as well as the higher-level ERP/PPS and CAD, CAM and PLM systems.

The digital COSCOM knowledge database centrally collects and stores manufacturing know-how and documents for production. Manage data only once and use it many times! This information center manages tool data, order information and working papers, enriches them and supplies ERP, CAD/CAM/simulation, CNC machines, measuring devices, tool cabinets and presetting devices as required.

Digitalization in CNC manufacturing promises optimized processes, less waste of resources, improved overall equipment effectiveness and ultimately greater competitiveness.

Open data platform as a strong link between production and ERP

In the open COSCOM platform, data is recorded once and maintained centrally. Data redundancy is eliminated. CAM, tool software, presetting/measuring devices, lifts, etc. access a common database as required. New systems immediately have up-to-date information. There is a permanent exchange with the ERP. Information from CAD, CAM and PLM systems is also available, for example on NC programs, materials, design details or production information such as clamping plans, drawings or videos. Also integrated: technology data from the areas of tool presetting and tool management, storage and logistics.

Central database instead of isolated solutions

The advantages are obvious: a central data platform makes it possible to improve productivity, increase efficiency and minimize unproductive non-productive and set-up times. Existing resources in production can be better utilized and the time from the idea or model to the finished component can be shortened. In addition, the production of repeat parts can be drastically accelerated.

As with any leading IT system - such as ERP or PLM software - all existing isolated solutions and processes should be put to the test when introducing a central data platform for production. This requires in-depth knowledge of the industry, the manufacturing processes and the software used.
