A single note - rough, crooked, honest.
An instrument that has been silent for a long time - and is now beginning to tell its story.
Not perfect, but true.
A sound emerges in the darkness that is not new, but returns.
This is how the door to memory opens - not with a chord,
but with the quiet breath of the past.

What does memory sound like?

In Im Zwielicht der Erinnerung, sound becomes language and silence becomes expression.

The six-minute pilot piece opens an interdisciplinary trilogy that condenses music, language and image into a poetic soundscape - reduced, fragmentary, intense.

As Scene I of the Trilogy of Silence, the work marks the beginning of an artistic narrative form between proximity and distance, between past and present. It is the result of a collaboration between Anselm Bonies (idea & text) and Nele Van Bonjes (composition & musical direction), produced by the independent art collective DREIFISCH.

It centers on a nocturnal encounter between two people whose shared history fades into silence. Their voices are cautious, fragmentary - the real story remains unspoken. What emerges is the in-between: Intimation, sound, silence.

Im Zwielicht der Erinnerung" is not a story in the classical sense -
but a sonic search for traces between loss, closeness and the echo of memory.

A sensually condensed experiential space of sound, memory and silence unfolds - open to associations, to what cannot be said, but only felt. The scene dispenses with linear narrative patterns and positions itself somewhere between an audio scene, film music and installative sound poetry.

Musically, the piece is carried by an out-of-tune piano, electronic surfaces, fine sound textures and fleeting fragments of speech. The visual design - a series of digitally animated charcoal drawings - complements the acoustic level as a calm visual projection in 16:9 format.

Together they create an auditory image that does not name, but suggests - a silent reflection in sounds, voices and shadows.

Artistic conception

In the Twilight of Memory" understands memory not as a retrospective, but as a state. Sound does not accompany here - it leads. What is decisive is not what is said, but what unfolds in silence, through the noises, between the sounds .

The composition follows an open structure. Sound becomes the carrier of inner movement, language the trace of mental states. The production does not use silence as a void, but as a resonance space for what remains unspoken.
