Ebnat AG, a leading manufacturer of interdental brushes and other brush products, has taken a significant step towards Industry 4.0 thanks to MES solutions from PROXIA. The company can look back on decades of tradition in the brush trade and has developed from a craft business into a modern industrial company with a turnover of over CHF 50 million. Since 2017, Ebnat has been using PROXIA's innovative MES solutions to make its production processes more efficient and transparent. "PROXIA MES is the key to an effective process data cockpit that helps us to align the business with our objectives and support the team in making improvements," explains Michele Vela, Managing Director of Ebnat AG.

From manual processes to transparency and predictability

Before introducing the MES system in 2017, Ebnat used an outdated ERP system with no connection to production. Manual entries and Excel-based processes often led to deviations, and there was a lack of important key figures on machine availability and production efficiency. "Without data, without figures, without facts, we had a problem," says project manager Thomas Hilberer. Post-calculation and performance assessment were also not possible, and rejects had to be booked manually.

Digital networking and real-time data

Ebnat's strategic goal was to digitize all production order data and resources and to network them with the maintenance and servicing departments. The MES system from PROXIA should not only provide real-time data, but also enable end-to-end traceability and transparency. "We wanted to make holistic digital networking and all resources involved in the value creation process measurable," says Hilberer.

Successful MES implementation

The modular structure of the PROXIA MES software enabled a step-by-step implementation, allowing the investment costs to be distributed efficiently. Thanks to the user-friendly interface and the individual configuration options, PROXIA MES achieved a high level of acceptance among employees. Thomas Hilberer explains: "The introduction of MDE was the icebreaker. We now have everyone in the same boat."

Growth in the direction of Industry 4.0

Today, Ebnat benefits from significantly higher system availability and transparency in the production processes. The company has increased its machine availability and can now rely on seamless traceability and detailed key production figures. "Thanks to the introduction of MES, there are far fewer queries, the processes are more transparent - there is huge potential here," summarizes Hilberer.

Ebnat's journey towards Industry 4.0 is far from over. The company plans to integrate further PROXIA modules, including detailed planning and CAQ, in order to further optimize its production processes.

The successful collaboration between Ebnat and PROXIA shows how the well thought-out digitalization of production processes can not only increase efficiency, but also secure the company's future in the long term.
