"Raised by Committee" by Carollyne Haynes

A memoir about coming of age during the 60's sexual revolution as 'a ward of the Courts in need of moral protection'

An audiobook version of this moving & inspiring memoir is now available, in addition to the print and e-book versions

About this book:

Written by Carollyne Haynes, this captivating real-life coming-of age story follows Gail, a young girl who was placed in the care of the Devon County Council Children's Committee after suffering abuse and abandonment.

Set in the picturesque countryside of Devon, England, we hear about Gail's journey as she navigates through the challenges of adolescence, while grappling with the scars of abuse and abandonment by her parents. From despair to hope, Gail overcomes her past traumas and emerges as a strong and resilient young woman.

Despite the odds stacked against her, Gail defies expectations and excels as a top student. But as she begins to find her footing in the world, she is faced with tough decisions and temptations which threaten to derail her progress.

Through it all, the Children's Committee remains a constant source of support and guidance for Gail. Their unwavering care and dedication help her navigate through the complexities of growing up and finding her place in the world.

With vivid storytelling and heartfelt emotion, "Raised by Committee" is a must-listen for anyone seeking a powerful and inspiring story of resilience and triumph.

'Raised by Committee' is a tribute to all those who take care of children who, through no fault of their own, become the flotsam of our society. This book should be required reading for social studies students and has received many 5-star reviews on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Story of survival...

This is a really good book by Carollyne Haynes. What a story of survival in tumultuous times, growing up in England during the 60's. As I am friends with the author it was a difficult book to read, almost like "too much" information, but to know what an amazing woman she has turned out to be... given the physical abuse of her father and the much worse psychological, mental, and emotional abuse of her "really awful" mother... I can only say it is a privilege to know her.

I recommend this book to anyone who has or is having difficulties in their life... it is a story of hope, survival, and success.
