Washington County, Wisconsin Now eRecording Deeds with Simplifile
WASHINGTON COUNTY, WISCONSIN – March 19, 2008 - Working together to effectuate the electronic filing and recording of land record documents such as deeds and mortgages in the state of Wisconsin, Simplifile and the Washington County Register of Deeds Office announced today that the inaugural electronic recording (eRecording) of a deed in Washington County, Wisconsin occurred on March 10, 2008. The historic transaction marked the first time a deed has been electronically transmitted to and recorded by the Register of Deeds Office within the County.eRecording is the process of submitting, receiving, and processing, via a secure Internet site, documents for recording that have traditionally been delivered to the county for recording by runner, express mail, or courier service. eRecording offers customers the ability to simplify and accelerate all aspects of the recording process, dramatically shortening the Gap and improving auditability.
“The Washington County Register of Deeds Office is pleased to provide electronic recording services to our clients through the Simplifile eRecording Service,” said Register of Deeds, Sharon Martin. According to Martin, “Our office is continually evaluating ways to improve the quality of our services. eRecording enables us to more efficiently record documents, eliminate document filing errors, and actually increase document security. And expanding our ability to electronically receive, review and record new document types such as deeds only increases our customers’ ability to record and track the status of documents from the convenience of their offices, using a standard Web browser.”
More than a mere trend in land record document submission, eRecording is a government priority. Federal (ESIGN) and state legislation (UETA, URPERA) have established the legal basis for secure electronic recording, and dozens of states and counties are already eRecording today.
"Simplifile is honored to provide industry-leading eRecording services to the Washington County Register of Deeds Office and their customers. Register of Deeds, Sharon Martin, and her staff are demonstrating leadership in making the land record submission and recording process easier, more cost-effective and convenient by expanding eRecording to include new document types,” said Paul Clifford, President of Simplifile. “Washington County is one of a growing number of Wisconsin Counties and other recording jurisdictions nationwide that are expanding their eRecording practices to make eRecording a more compelling solution for their customers.”
Individuals and organizations that regularly file documents with Washington County are invited to contact the Register of Deed’s Office or Simplifile for more information on how to take advantage of Simplifile eRecording services.
