Simplifile and Ozaukee County Announce First Electronically Recorded Deed
OZAUKEE COUNTY, WI – March 24, 2008 - The Ozaukee County Register of Deed’s Office and Simplifile announced today that the inaugural electronic recording (eRecording) of a deed in Ozaukee County occurred on Monday, March 10, 2008. The historic transaction marked the first time a deed has been electronically transmitted to and recorded by The Ozaukee County Register of Deed’s Office, and signals the expansion of digital document recording in the County.eRecording is the process of submitting, receiving, and processing, via a secure Internet site, documents for recording that have traditionally been delivered to the county for recording by runner, express mail, or courier service. eRecording offers recorders the ability to simplify and accelerate all aspects of the recording process, dramatically shortening the Gap and improving auditability.
Register of Deeds Ronald Voigt said, “Tomorrow is here today in Ozaukee County—customers get faster responses and the Register of Deeds Office can receive, review and record documents without handling paper. And once they are recorded, documents flow right into our document management system for indexing and retrieval.”
More than a mere trend in land record document submission, eRecording is a government priority. Federal (ESIGN) and state legislation (UETA, URPERA) have established the legal basis for secure electronic recording, and dozens of states and counties are already eRecording today.
"Simplifile is honored to have worked closely with the Ozaukee County Register of Deeds Office to inaugurate the recording of deeds and many other property document types in the County. Register Voigt and his staff are demonstrating pioneering leadership in expanding the national effort to make the land record submission and recording process easier and more secure through the use of technology,” said Paul Clifford, President of Simplifile. “We are confident that the Ozaukee County Register of Deeds Office and their customers will enjoy the same productivity gains and enhanced filing and recording services that recording jurisdictions and document submitters nationwide increasingly benefit from by eRecording with Simplifile.”
Individuals and organizations that do business with the Ozaukee County Register of Deed’s Office can contact the county or Simplifile directly for information on how they can benefit from Simplifile eRecording services.
