Stars meet for a chat and 1000 fans enjoy the great concert in Zell am See-Kaprun

When Mike, Terry, Martin, and Steve hit the piste, they like 'doing the Klammer'. Not always, but definitely when they are really dashing down the slopes, their battle cry is 'Take care: Franz Klammer is coming!' The musicians of Smokie are true fans of the legendary Austrian ski racer. And Marc Girardelli, another former ski racer from the Alpine republic, also rates high with the five Brits.

On 2nd April the cult band of the 1970ies came to Zell am See-Kaprun to raise the roof at the 'Sun, Snow & Party Week'. They wouldn't even have dared to guess that shortly after their arrival they themselves were going to be entertained with all the tricks of the book. The band bumped into the two former top athletes on Schmittenhöhe - life is full of surprises!

Actually, Franz Klammer and Marc Girardelli had come to the almost 2,000-metre-high local mountain of Zell am See to put the latest ski models of international manufacturers for the winter season of 2008/2009 to the acid test at the renowned 'World Skitest'. But when the star athletes met the pop stars, the event suddenly was of secondary importance.

'You were my idols', were the first words of a long chat between Girardelli and the band. And Franz Klammer, too, could remember the hits of the band very well. Unfortunately, their time was so limited that evening that the two former athletes couldn't attend the concert which took place on the event stage in Thumersbach, which is part of Zell. But about 1,000 fans came to the concert and had a blast with top hits like 'Living next door to Alice' - dark clouds and rain didn't do any harm to the party mood.

The nasty weather couldn't spoil the Skitest either, because there was plenty of snow on the pistes. Not only Klammer and Girardelli put on the latest ski models. Celebrities like Fritz Strobl and Thomas Sykora as well as the current winter sports stars Reinfried Herbst, Georg Streitberger, Tine Huber, and Karin Huttary didn't want to miss out on this chance either. The winners of the Olympic gold medal in the men's doubles in luge, Wolfgang and Andreas Linger, came to the local mountain of Zell, too.

The latest fashion trends for males and females for the next winter season were presented by Naddel and Kurt Elsasser at an exclusive fashion show. At Panorama Pfiff a runway made of snow had been set up for this event and was the venue for a duet of the two stars. Nik P. and Uwe Busse also took the opportunity to perform and prove their singing skills.

Until Friday this week, the major event of the 'World Skitest' is going on. On Sunday, 6th April, the 'Splash Contest' is the spectacular final event of the 'Sun, Snow & Party Week'. Smokie, however, have already left. Four of the five musicians didn't venture out on the pistes because of the unpleasant weather. But Mick McConnell could not be stopped - he 'did the Klammer'.
