Recently, the Technical Department of GSL ENERGY (hereinafter referred to as "GSL ENERGY") was invited by a project party in the United States to organize and participate in a technical support event. Mr. Stone, the person in charge, personally went to the destination for a technical demonstration and support.In the Caribbean region of the United States, GSL ENERGY's project party installed 48 units of 10kWh low-voltage rack battery units here, which were connected in parallel through GSL ENERGY's unique low-voltage HUB technology to form a total capacity of 480kWh for backup power and load supply.
Low-voltage HUB technology refers to the connection of multiple HUB modules in parallel within a low-voltage electrical system to work together. In the field of energy storage, achieving stable operation of 48 batteries in parallel requires balancing and solving issues such as currents sharing, communication control, thermal management, and protection mechanisms, which is not easy.
However, two years ago, GSL ENERGY had already achieved the parallel connection technology of 32 energy storage batteries in a project in Switzerland, and the system has been running stably until now.
Based on the 32 battery parallel connection technology, after continuous verification and testing, the GSL ENERGY Technical Department optimized and upgraded from two aspects, ultimately achieving the parallel connection of 48 energy storage batteries with a low-voltage HUB.
1.Interleaved Parallel Connection : Improving Efficiency and Reducing Ripple
As is well known, when multiple HUBs are connected in parallel, harmonic currents are generated, which can cause distortion of the grid voltage, affect the normal operation of other devices, and may also reduce the control accuracy of the HUB battery modules themselves.
For battery charging scenarios, GSL ENERGY advocates an interleaved parallel connection scheme to reduce output current ripple while optimizing the converter parameter design, thereby reducing output current ripple and improving power density and efficiency.
2.Current Sharing Control Technology : Ensuring Parallel Stability
To ensure the stable operation of 48 batteries, the charging and discharging currents of each battery need to be evenly distributed. However, due to individual differences in batteries during production, such as inconsistent internal resistance and capacity parameters, uneven current distribution may occur. Long-term uneven current distribution may lead to overcharging or overdischarging of some batteries, affecting battery life and even causing safety issues.
GSL ENERGY uses intelligent current sharing control technology that fully considers the interaction between modules and the overall performance of the system. It not only precisely controls the voltage, current, power, and other parameters of each module but also continuously adjusts and optimizes them in practical applications.
