Accommodation Module Research:with a compound annual growth rate of 4.2% over the next few years
Global Accommodation Module MarketThe accommodation module is a new accommodation solution with integrated and modular design as its core. It produces unit modules containing basic structures such as walls, roofs, and floors through standardized prefabrication in factories, and integrates basic living functional areas such as bedrooms, bathrooms, simple kitchens, and storage spaces in the modules in advance. At the same time, it pre-installs water and electricity pipelines, heating and ventilation, lighting, fire safety and other supporting facilities to form independent accommodation units with complete accommodation functions that can be flexibly assembled, disassembled, moved or expanded. Its core advantage lies in its strong flexibility. It can be used alone to meet the accommodation of one or a few people according to actual needs, or it can be combined and spliced between modules to form multi-room, multi-family accommodation clusters, which are suitable for collective accommodation or family accommodation needs of multiple people. At the same time, it is efficient and convenient. Factory prefabrication greatly shortens the on-site construction period and reduces the site impact of traditional construction. Accommodation modules are designed to withstand damage and environmental impacts, and can adapt to a variety of complex scenarios. Whether it's temporary accommodation for personnel in field projects such as construction, mining, and oilfield operations; temporary resettlement for emergencies like emergency relief and epidemic prevention and control; leisure accommodation scenarios such as cultural tourism camping and rural homestays; transitional housing for urban talent recruitment; temporary resettlement for urban renewal; or long-term accommodation at scientific research stations or base stations in remote areas, accommodation modules offer a safe, comfortable, and cost-effective living environment thanks to their minimal site requirements, comprehensive functionality, reusability, and manageable costs. In recent years, with the advancement of environmental awareness and modular construction technology, some accommodation modules have incorporated environmentally friendly materials, energy-saving systems, and smart home devices to further enhance the living experience and sustainability. They have become a key solution for meeting diverse accommodation needs and resolving temporary or specific accommodation challenges.
According to the QYResearch research team, the global accommodation module market is expected to reach US$5.354 billion in 2024 and US$5.546 billion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.2% over the next few years.

Description
Fixed Accommodation Modules
Fixed accommodation modules are typically designed and constructed as an integral part of the platform or vessel. They are securely attached to the main structure of an offshore platform, semi-submersible platform, drillship, or FPSO through welding, bolting, or other integral structural connections. These modules are typically large and feature a comprehensive spatial layout, accommodating dozens to hundreds of personnel. Internal facilities include dormitories, dining rooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, recreation areas, medical cabins, gyms, and office spaces, providing comfortable living conditions for long-term crews. As they are integrated into the platform structure, fixed modules are designed to strictly adhere to the relevant standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), and classification societies such as DNV, ABS, and BV, offering high resistance to fire, explosion, noise, and sea conditions. Their advantages include long-term stability, comprehensive facilities, high comfort, and a long service life, making them suitable for long-term offshore operations and projects with large crews. However, their disadvantages include a long construction period, high cost, and difficulty in flexible adjustment or relocation once installed.
Portable Accommodation Modules
Portable accommodation modules utilize modular, containerized, or modular designs. Their distinguishing features are their high flexibility and mobility. They can be quickly assembled, deployed, or dismantled, typically using lifting equipment, allowing for the temporary increase or decrease of accommodation capacity based on project needs. These modules typically feature standard dimensions (such as ISO container specifications) and can be configured as single, double, or multi-person rooms. They are equipped with essential amenities such as air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, and private bathrooms. Some also include small kitchens or recreational areas. They adhere to relevant offshore safety and fire protection standards, but generally lack the comfort and spaciousness of fixed modules. Portable accommodation modules are widely used in short-term construction, maintenance and repair, emergency rescue, oil spill response, and military deployments, making them particularly suitable for oil and gas platforms or vessels requiring short-term reinforcement. Their advantages include flexible deployment, easy transportation, relatively low cost, and reusability. However, their disadvantages include limited space, poor long-term comfort, and limited resistance to extreme environments, making them unsuitable for extended, large-scale deployments.

Global Accommodation Module Market Trends, Industry Chain and Driving Factors
Market Trends
The global accommodation module market has shown steady growth in recent years. Driven by increased offshore oil and gas exploration and development, the rise of offshore wind power and renewable energy projects, and the extended duration of deep-sea operations, demand for safe, comfortable, and standardized offshore accommodation solutions continues to rise. Previously primarily used on traditional offshore drilling and production platforms, accommodation modules are now expanding to include floating production storage and offloading (FPSOs), wind power operation and maintenance (O&M) platforms, scientific research vessels, and temporary engineering bases in remote locations. As operators' requirements for living conditions and safety increase, accommodation module designs are trending toward high comfort, multifunctional integration, modularity, and environmental friendliness, with a greater emphasis on compliance with international safety regulations and classification society standards.
Industry Chain
From a supply chain perspective, the upstream sector primarily includes suppliers of steel, aluminum alloys, refractory materials, thermal and acoustic insulation materials, ventilation and air conditioning systems, firefighting and lifesaving equipment, sanitary ware, and living facilities. These suppliers provide key raw materials and supporting components for accommodation module manufacturing. The midstream segment comprises core manufacturers of accommodation modules. These companies are responsible for overall design, module construction, modular integration, and system installation. Representative companies include CIMC, Seatrium, COOEC, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Wison Offshore, Eiffage Metal, OEG Offshore, BOMESC, Kiewit, and Hanwha Ocean. They not only produce fixed and mobile accommodation modules, but also provide customized services to meet the needs of different projects.
The global downstream market for accommodation modules can be divided into several core categories, each with distinct procurement drivers and technical/compliance requirements. The first category is large international and national oil and gas operators (IOCs and NOCs), including upstream integrated energy companies such as Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, TotalEnergies, ENI, and Petrobras. These companies have a stable and robust demand for high-reliability, high-safety fixed accommodation and integrated life support systems that comply with classification society and SOLAS/IMO regulations for new field development, offshore production platforms, FPSOs, and long-term operations. Their procurement decisions are heavily influenced by the life of the field, capital expenditure plans, and contract terms (EPC/EPCI). They typically adopt long-term EPCI contracts or supply framework agreements with large shipbuilding/offshore contractors, imposing strict requirements on supplier qualifications, performance capabilities, and localized service capabilities.
The second category consists of floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) owners and operators, as well as large offshore contractors such as MODEC, SBM Offshore, and BW Offshore. These companies often make the final decisions or work with charterers to develop accommodation configuration standards for FPSO conversions, accommodation upgrades, or new FPSO builds. For this downstream sector, accommodation modules must balance space utilization, robustness against harsh sea conditions, and high integration with the vessel's systems (seawater, drainage, power, and fire protection). These modules are included in the overall vessel EPCI scope during the bidding phase, with delivery pacing in sync with the shipyard/conversion cycle.
The third category is offshore drilling and engineering service companies (such as drilling contractors like Transocean, Seadrill, Noble/Valaris, and large EPC contractors). These companies rely heavily on portable or modular accommodation for temporary stationing, wellsite construction, and drilling crew accommodation, enabling them to quickly adapt to fluctuating project cycles. These clients value the rapid deployment, dismantling, and transportation costs of modules, as well as engineered controls for vibration, noise, and long-term crew comfort. These features directly impact operational efficiency and staff retention.
The fourth category is offshore wind developers and O&M service companies (such as Ørsted, Vattenfall, Iberdrola, and Equinor), as well as O&M contractors for floating/offshore wind farms. With the accelerated global deployment of offshore wind power, particularly the expansion of floating wind power in deepwater areas, demand for accommodation modules has surged for on-site maintenance and mid- to long-term stays during operation and maintenance. Wind farms often require low-noise, low-vibration, energy-efficient, and sustainable accommodation solutions (such as energy-efficient HVAC, wastewater treatment, and a smaller carbon footprint). They also favor modular and scalable mobile accommodation solutions to accommodate varying O&M schedules and staffing levels. Recent floating wind power tenders and project investments in various countries indicate a growing demand for large-scale O&M foundations and long-term accommodation solutions.
The fifth category includes shipping and offshore service companies, offshore engineering and maritime rescue agencies, research vessels, and government/military organizations. These users have higher requirements for specialized accommodation modules or prefer customization. For example, the military prioritizes protection and survivability, research platforms emphasize laboratory and sample processing space, and maritime rescue and emergency camps prioritize rapid deployment and durability. Another downstream category comprises onshore/remote project owners (mines, remote construction camps, and large-scale infrastructure projects), who sometimes utilize containerized accommodation modules, opening up alternative non-offshore markets for accommodation module manufacturers.
Drivers
Demand for accommodation modules will continue to grow in the coming years, primarily driven by three factors. First, the global energy transition is driving rapid growth in offshore wind power projects, significantly increasing demand for accommodation modules within wind power operation and maintenance platforms. Second, the continued advancement of deepwater oil and gas development is leading to longer operator stays, increasing demand for high-standard accommodation modules. Third, modular and mobile designs are becoming increasingly popular in the industry, enabling rapid deployment, flexible adjustment, and reuse, meeting the needs of short-term projects and emergency deployments. Furthermore, the gradual incorporation of environmentally friendly and intelligent technologies into accommodation modules, such as low-energy air conditioning systems, wastewater recycling and treatment, intelligent safety monitoring, and user-friendly design, will drive the industry's upgrade towards high-end and green development. Overall, the global accommodation module market is experiencing steady expansion, with the upstream and downstream supply chains maturing. The market landscape now features a coexistence of large international manufacturers and regional suppliers. Driven by energy transition and deep-sea development, further growth is expected.
