China Revises Textiles Standard for Hosiery
The new standard is designed to standardize the quality of men’s and women’s hosiery. In addition, it adjusts the scope of application and alters the classifications. The standard has also added a requirement for children’s hosiery, that they meet the requirements in mandatory standards GB 31701 and GB 5296.4.
The updated version of FZ/T 73001 has altered:
• Application scope
• Terms and definitions
• Product classification
• Appearance quality requirements
• Stretch: both length-wise and width-wise
• Regulations relating to formaldehyde, pH levels, odour, AZO, fiber content, fiber content sampling, and labeling
• Mandatory requirements for children’s hosiery
It should be noted the new standard does not apply to pressure socks, warp-knitted hosiery, sports socks, ladder-proof hosiery and hosiery for infants under 36 months.
The new standard will be effective after April 2, 2017. Following this date, stakeholders are advised to update the labeling of their hosiery products to reflect the updated standard. In addition, manufacturers will also need to follow the technical requirements contained within the new standard, before they can legally sell their products on the Chinese market.
