These chemicals are primarily added to optimize the settling process causing high purity of overflow water thereby ensuring settling of smaller solid. Moreover, these equipment eliminates the presence of mechanical moving parts in comparison to conventional clarifiers thereby reducing energy consumption with increased safety. Lamella clarifiers are commercially available in various sizes whose selection depends on the type of solid being separated which is experimentally determined by settling test. Although lamella clarifiers offers significant advantages over traditional clarifiers, there are several drawback involved in the configuration and operation of lamella clarifiers.
