SGS held Non-Destructive Testing Seminar for Pressure Vessel Manufacturers
TOFD and AE Seminar in Korea by SGS
Norbert Trimborn, NDT expert at the SGS Global NDT – Special Examinations Center in the Netherlands held the section about the first technique in focus: Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) (http://www.sgs.com/ndt-time-of-flight-diffraction-tofd). TOFD is a sensitive and accurate ultrasonic method of testing welds for defects using a fully-computerized system to scan and evaluate discontinuities in terms of height, length, and position. One of the important advantages that TOFD offers is the absence of radiation.
The other method discussed was Acoustic Emission (AE) introduced by SungKyu Yoo from SGS Korea. AE is used to analyze emitted sound waves caused by defects or discontinuities. With AE, it is possible to locate structural defects and to monitor the tendency of discontinuities.
Training curses like this help clients increase their international competitiveness by keeping them up-to-date with the newest technologies.
