Airport Baggage Screening Systems Market By Segment, Types, Regions, Applications And Forecast To 2021
The Smart Security initiative aims to minimize passenger wait times and maintain advanced levels of security at checkpoints at airports. Towards this end, airports are incorporating innovative and advanced technologies to improve the flow of people and bags throughout checkpoints. Moreover, the recent application of 3D scanning for airport baggage screening has shown positive results, with significant reduction in queues and bottlenecks. The COBRA machines, developed by Analogic Corp. provide three-dimensional images of bags that automatically detect any possible security threats or presence of illegal substances. These advanced baggage screeners do not require human interference. Rather, in case of a threat, the bag is automatically flagged and removed from the queue to be physically screened by an airport security agent. The preference of 3D technology over the conventional screening methods for baggage screening, has reduced the instances of false alarms and delays, resulting in high operational efficiency.
In addition, with the growing demand for artificial intelligence, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has initiated a program to develop machine learning powered tools. This can predict security threats, essentially streamlining the screening operations, and simultaneously making them more accurate.
