Automatic water level controller manages the water pump circuit in a tank or reservoir. The water level sensor consists of a metal plate, which is mounted on the water tank or reservoir, with a sensor in the short for creating the top level and a detection sensor for detecting the lower level. The ground lines are connected to the bottom of the tank or reservoir.

The automatic water level controller switches on the water pump circuit as and when the water level in the tank or reservoir falls below a predetermined point and switches off the circuit when the water level rises up to the predetermined point. Different technologies are employed in the design and implementation of such controllers. Typically, such controllers employ a microcontroller-based system to automate the process of water pumping in an overhead tank, and display the water level on LCD screens. Continuous research has made it possible to use DC power in place of AC power, thereby reducing the risk of electrocution.
