Space for 3.25 billion labels
Bizerba label factory completes new warehouse in BochumBalingen, 6. July 2012 – After a two-year construction phase, the Bizerba label factory has received a state-of-the art warehouse in Bochum just in time for its thirtieth anniversary. The warehouse offers space for 3.25 billion labels. It is now possible for customers to print large quantities of labels under excellent conditions, and to have them stored in the new warehouse. In addition, they can take advantage of "label management", a new service from Bizerba, meaning that there are no logistics to deal with on their part.
Around thirty years ago, sales figures for Bizerba retail scales increased rapidly. "The company decided to also start producing its own tickets, and set up the label factory in Bochum. Over time, the portfolio expanded to include numerous decorative and functional labels and the demands placed on production and storage capacities increased, meaning that the old warehouse was bursting at the seams," explains Marc Büttgenbach, Sales Director for Labels and Consumables.
Ready for the 30th anniversary: Bizerba's new label storage warehouse in Bochum
Construction has been completed right in time for the 30th anniversary on 29 June 2012 and has caused quite a stir in the sector. "The warehouse is 15 metres high and offers space for 6,500 pallets holding rolls of 500,000 labels each. So in total we can store and bring out 3.25 billion labels semi-automatically using forklift trucks."
Trend towards smaller packaging – producers need more labels
There is particular market trend that has been emerging in the food industry for some time now, says Büttgenbach: "Instead of XXL packs, retailers and manufacturers are increasingly working in smaller portions. Accordingly, producers are needing more labels than before, generally ordered in large quantities to save printing costs. Often there is not enough space on customers' own premises, meaning that many are looking for a service provider to store and deliver labels at short notice." Bizerba has taken note of this market trend and implemented it swiftly.
New warehouse and paradigm shift: Bizerba has its finger on the pulse with new services
Büttgenbach, member of the executive board of the Verband der Hersteller selbstklebender Etiketten (association of manufacturers of self-adhesive labels, vske), has come up with a new term for this approach: "label management". "We store the labels and dispatch them with the shortest possible lead time. This becomes particularly challenging when companies have several, maybe even international, commercial premises. This is where our local Bizerba branches come into play."
This new self-image encompasses other services that generate added value: "We can look after the customer in the long term and get to know him better: get an insight into his future and production plans and provide him with advice – in terms of any technical questions regarding labelling machines and also in terms of marketing issues surrounding labels." Initial feedback has been consistently positive: "Customers see this new offer as a logical change of paradigms."
