Ultralingua and Collins Dictionary Announcement!

Nov. 17, 2008, Minneapolis, MN, Ultralingua announced today the release of Collins branded dictionaries.

Building on the success of its suite of dictionaries (definitions and translations) for the Mac OS X operating system, Ultralingua has now collaborated with Collins Dictionaries (UK) to bring world-class definition translation tools to its users. The new line, sold on the Ultralingua site, harnesses Ultralingua’s popular interface and search features, making the complex look-up of words and phrases both simple and fast.

Collins Dictionaries, a subsidiary of HarperCollins, has long been recognized as the gold standard for dictionary content, offering highly enriched definitions and translations, complete with contextual indicators and thousands of expressions. These new tools address the needs of the most demanding users in academics, translation, business and other fields dependent on the highest quality. By harnessing the power of Collins Dictionaries, Ultralingua software takes the effort out of dictionary consultation.

Best of all, Ultralingua technology will automatically recognize inflected words (conjugated verbs, irregular plurals), and will even allow users to conjugate verbs in all their tenses. Each dictionary also includes language-learning tools, such as an integrated flash card system for vocabulary acquisition, along with extensive grammar references for most languages. A special “hotkey” allows users to click on a word in nearly any document to display a translation or definition by the cursor. An automated search for examples and a direct connection to Ultralingua’s language forums make the new Collins Dictionaries indispensable tools for students and professionals.

Collins dictionaries by Ultralingua are downloadable in trial versions from the Ultralingua website at http://www.ultralingua.com/en/mac-dictionary.htm. Available titles include: English Definitions, French-English Dictionary, German-English Dictionary, Spanish-English Dictionary, Italian-English Dictionary, and Portuguese-English Dictionary. Each title costs $44.95 (though substantial discounts apply to purchases of three or more titles).
