Weft insertion principle of rapier loom
The rapier loom's weft insertion technique involves inserting or clamping the weft yarn onto a fixed bobbin outside the machine and introducing it into the shed using a reciprocating rapier. For rapier looms, there are numerous types of weft insertion that can be categorized based on the attributes listed below.

Rapier configuration quantity
Depending on how many rapier configurations there are, rapier looms can be classified as single rapier weft insertion or double rapier weft insertion.
The only components of a single rapier weft insertion are a long rapier that is broader than the width of the cloth and a rapier transmission mechanism on one side of the loom that transfers the weft yarn from one end of the shed to the other. Alternatively, to complete the weft insertion, extend the empty rapier into the shed to retain the weft yarn on the opposite side. Then, pull the weft yarn into the shed while the withdrawal operation is underway.
On both sides of the loom, there are rapiers (swords that feed and receive weft) and matching sword-transmitting devices for double-rapier weft insertion. The weft-feeding sword moves the weft yarn to the center of the shed during weft insertion, and the weft-receiving sword, which has also moved to the center of the shed, receives it from the opposite side. After that, the two swords return apart, and the weft connecting sword completes the weft insertion by dragging the weft yarn through the shed.

The structural form of the rapier
Rigid and flexible rapier weft insertions are the two types of rapier weft insertions. Rapier loom classification often starts with the rapier's flexibility or rigidity.
The rigid rapier loom's rapier head is fixed to a robust, rigid rapier, and the rigid rapier's reciprocating motion completes the weft insertion. Installing a tool to direct the rapier in the shed is not necessary. After leaving the shed, the rigid rapier takes up a lot of room, which causes the machine to take up a lot of space. The rapier's enormous inertia and bulkiness make it unsuitable at fast speeds.
The flexible rapier loom's rapier head is fixed to a flat strip composed of composite materials or spring steel. To finish the weft insertion, the rapier head reciprocates in response to the flexible rapier strip stretching. The flexible sword belt can be retracted under the frame or looped around the sword transfer wheel when it leaves the shed. This type of flexible rapier loom can produce a big width, is lightweight, conducive to high speed, and takes up little space.

Weft holding method for rapier weft insertion
It can be separated into two groups: the clamp-type rapier system and the fork-type rapier system.
To achieve circular weft insertion in the fork-in rapier system, the weft yarn is hung on the rapier head of the single rapier and pushed to the opposite end of the shed, introducing double weft each time. The weft-feeding sword can also propel the weft yarn toward the center of the loom, where it is subsequently led out of the shed by the sword head of the weft-receiving sword.
The weft feeding rapier, which is part of the clamping rapier system, retains the weft yarn and transports it to the loom's center.
Then the weft connecting sword takes over the weft yarn and leads out the shed to achieve linear weft insertion, each time introducing a single weft.
